Hamilton Island, QLD

The best luxury rentals in Hamilton Island

900 kilometres (560 miles) north of Brisbane, in the heart of Queensland's popular Whitsunday Islands, Hamilton Island is the most accessible, stunning resort island on Australia's Great Barrier Reef. With an area of five amazing square kilometres, Hamilton Island lies close to the south-eastern tip of Whitsunday Island, the largest island (109 square kilometres) in the Whitsunday group, North Queensland. It is the only Queensland island with a modern jet airport, which allows you to fly directly to Hamilton Island from Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Uluru in the Northern Territory. For flights try Jetstar, Virgin Australia or Quantas. Unlike Green Island and Heron Island, which are cays, the Whitsunday Islands are mostly continental islands and are the tips of underwater mountains. Many of these islands, like Hamilton Island, have fringing coral reefs and are considered part of the Great Barrier Reef. If travelling by land on the Queensland coast, Whitsunday Cruises provide a ferry service to Hamilton Island from Shute Harbour and Able Point near Airlie Beach, south of the town of Bowen. Or of course you can also sail your own boat to Hamilton Island!
